Russian centre of science and culture in Washington DC and the Russia Today TV channel on Thursday will hold in the capital of the United States presentation of a unique project #1917LIVE, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the revolution in Russia.

As expected, greeted the guests of the presentation by Ambassador of Russia Anatoly Antonov, head of Russian cultural center in Washington, Oleg Zhiganov, Director General of RT, Alexey Nikolov and ivory Crotti responsible for the implementation of the project in social networks.

As you know, in 2017, Russia marks the centenary of the revolution. Across the country there are educational activities aimed at attracting public attention to Russian history and to prevent the distortion of historical events. Therefore, there was the idea to recreate the historical reality of the virtual by using friendly for users modern network technologies.

#1917LIVE — the large-scale historical reconstruction that ever tried to implement Twitter. The project has managed to bring in an alternate reality life of Russia a century ago, «if Emperor Nicholas II signed the abdication in March of 1917, instead of his cigarette as I reached for the iPhone,» reads the release on the project.

In English, the project tells the story of the revolution through tweets. In real time dozens of accounts and publish your messages to the day, as if the events unfolded 100 years ago. Here Nicholas II and his family, Lenin, generals Brusilov, Alekseyev, Kornilov, here and Kerensky, Trotsky, and Stalin. There are accounts of the embassies of the US, Britain, and even Imperial Germany. Sailors, soldiers, farmers, bakers, whose prototypes have also served as real people, the participants of those events.

The project actively involved the audience — anyone can create a historically accurate account corresponding to the era and to participate directly in the writing of living history. All accounts are United by the hashtag #1917LIVE and the main Twitter feed of the project — the fictional newspaper «Russian Telegraph». Project #1917LIVE follow journalists, politicians, researchers and historians.

Among the famous followers of the project — the mayor of Riga nil Ushakov, former Prime Minister of Sweden Carl Bildt, members of the British and Italian parliaments, the Ambassador of Spain to Russia, ambassadors of great Britain in Estonia and Ukraine, the Russian mission to the UN.

On accounts signed by journalists from around the world: the Guardian, Bloomberg, Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Washington Post, Newsweek, France 24 and others.

Geography of the project global. In addition to English-speaking countries of particular interest to the project show in Latin America, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Italy, Scandinavia.

The project is being followed in the universities of Oxford, Georgetown, Cardiff. In the framework of the project, RT has shot a series of rollers in VR format (360°), dedicated to the revolutionary events of 1917.

Participants of the presentation at the cultural center will not only learn how to create these videos, but to take in the sights of a century ago with a special VR glasses.

Together these episodes will be a broad panorama of one of the most dramatic episodes in the history of Russia», — say the creators of the project.
