The position of the Russian Orthodox Church on abortion is unchanged, it is first and foremost about the termination of funding of abortion from the compulsory health insurance Fund (MHI), told RIA Novosti the head of the Synodal Department for Church and society and the media of the Moscow Patriarchate, Vladimir Legoyda.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday said that the issue of the ban on abortion nothing is impossible «to break through the knee» and we need a balanced approach to the problem, otherwise «double flowers» will grow clandestine operations, causing enormous damage to women’s health. Earlier, the participants of all-Russian public movement «For life!» announced that it had collected 1 million signatures in support of its petition for a ban on abortion in the country. In the fall of 2016 it was signed by the Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill.

«Outlined by the President point of view is based on widespread in the world practice and the view, which still dominates in our society. Of course, the Church believes abortion is evil and opposed to their Commission. I don’t think someone of the believers will tell you that support this practice,» — said Legoyda.

He stressed that the dialogue with the representatives of the authorities the position of the Russian Orthodox Church remains unchanged. «It is, above all, in the withdrawal of abortion from the compulsory health insurance system; unfortunately, the fact that the operation for termination of pregnancy are financed from the health insurance Fund, enabling to perceive abortion as a social norm,» — said the Chairman of the Department.

He also drew attention to the fact that the movement «For life!» is not only engaged in collection of signatures for the prohibition of abortion, «these people are helping single mothers, needy families and young children, one of the main directions of their work is the prevention of abortion.»

The Russian health Minister Veronika Skvortsova said earlier that the funds that would be released from the system in case of removal of her abortion, a small and would not have a significant impact on the budget. Deputy health Minister Dmitry Kostennikov said that the Ministry of health of the Russian Federation does not support the elimination of the system of abortion, because this measure will lead to discrimination of certain categories of women. The expert working group of the Federal level in the government, whose decisions are Advisory in nature, in turn, decided to reject the public initiative for the removal of abortion from the compulsory medical insurance system in Russia.
