VTSIOM: more than 70% of employed Russians have not thought about the issue of robotics

More than 60% of Russians spoke out against the robotization of jobs, about a quarter believe the trend is correct, but the thought of the possibility of such a development concerned a few — almost three-quarters of the workers in Russia have never thought about it, the survey showed the all-Russia centre of studying of public opinion (VTSIOM).

«Overall, the survey showed, supporters of robotics in our society, less than half of opponents: 27% of workers believe the trend to replace people in the workplace robots are correct, 62% — no,» — stated in the materials of the survey, which is available to RIA Novosti.

While more categorical in this respect are set up the young people (against the robotics are 69-70% of respondents aged 18 to 34 years); but among the citizens older opponents less (55-57% in groups of 45 years and older).

However, the sociologists, the subject of robotics yet excites the minds of the few: according to 18% of employees, a couple of times they thought about the possibility of the arrival of robots to replace them, another 7% admitted that they think about it often. But 73% of survey participants, according to VTSIOM, never thought about this scenario.

The head of the Department of research VTSIOM Stepan Lvov recalled that robotics, the emergence of artificial intelligence has been a Central theme of science fiction in its heyday; even 30 years ago people believed that the hard or routine work the man will give the machines, he said.

«It is middle and older generation has shown a greater «loyalty» to the robots than the young. Heroes of popular culture — from electronics to the Terminator, from Optimus Prime to the valley formed an opinion about robots as almost animate beings, but in General little use for the individual and society. Perhaps it is their way first came to mind when we asked questions about robots» — suggested the expert.

A nationwide survey «polls-Sputnik» was held on 7, 9 and 10 December 2017 among 1.8 thousand respondents aged from 18 years. Survey method – telephone interviews, the statistical error does not exceed 2.5%. All questions were asked only of employed respondents (69% in the sample).
