Kosovo in December this year or January next plans to apply for membership in the Council of Europe, Vice-Premier of the breakaway Republic Enver Hogi on Friday at a meeting of the Kosovo government.

According to him, if I apply now, membership may be issued within the next two years, as the Council of Europe at this time will preside over mainly countries that have recognized Kosovo’s independence.

«The Council of Europe after the European Union is one of the most important organizations in Europe, and we are the only ones in the region who is not part of it. The Chairpersons are four countries that have recognized Kosovo’s independence,» said Hoji.

According to the Vice Prime Minister, Kosovo must demonstrate that it has stable institutions, develops in the areas of rule of law and protection of human rights.

The Albanian authorities of Kosovo with support of USA and leading EU countries, unilaterally declared independence from Serbia in 2008. Since then, the Kosovo Albanians have made numerous attempts to join international organizations to secure their independence. Kosovo’s sovereignty is currently recognized by over 100 States members of the United Nations.
