The activities of the Russian Foundation for basic research (RFBR) for a quarter of a century of its history has allowed to preserve the intellectual potential of Russia by supporting the work of so many talented Russian scientists and thus prevented their departure in the foreign scientific centers, said the Deputy Minister of education and science of the Russian Federation academician Grigory Trubnikov.

He spoke Friday at a meeting of the Board of RFBR, dedicated to the 25th anniversary Fund.

«I think most importantly, what has the Foundation done over these 25 years, tens of thousands supported by young and Mature researchers. Scientists, engineers who remained in our country, and therefore, we can say that the Russian Foundation for basic research has preserved and continues to preserve the intellectual potential of our country», — said Trubnikov.

Russian Foundation for basic research was created in 1992 by presidential decree at the initiative of the largest Russian scientists. The main goal of RFBR — support scientific research in all areas of fundamental science on a competitive basis. The creation of the Russian Foundation for basic research meant the birth of a fundamentally new for the Russian science organizational forms that allowed scientists to make a choice of the research topics, create research teams and to concentrate resources on the most promising works.
