TV presenter Ksenia Sobchak has told RIA Novosti that he considers the conviction of a former head of the Ministry Alexei Ulyukayev inhumane.

The Zamoskvoretsky court of Moscow on Friday issued a decision on the most high-profile case of corruption in recent years: Ulyukayev was sentenced to eight years of penal colony for bribe reception in 2 million dollars from the head of «Rosneft» Igor Sechin. Additionally, 61-year-old Ulyukayev, the most senior convicted bribe-taker in the modern history of Russia was sentenced to a fine of 130 million rubles and eight-year ban to work in government service after his release.

«We welcome the systematic fight against corruption, and the occasional clashes the corrupt ones with the others. Regardless of the doubts in the impartiality and fairness of the prosecution, is the exact belief in the inhumanity of such a sentence in respect of the elderly, not representing public danger of the person», — said Sobchak.

The presenter noted that the sentence Ulyukayev «it is impossible to comment on apart from the distrust of law enforcement and the judicial system always takes the side of the prosecution, especially if one of the parties is the state or the privileged state-owned companies».
