More than 40 people are applying for the post of the mayor of Samara

Candidates on a post of the mayor of Samara was 44 people, two more were awaiting registration, have informed RIA Novosti the press service of the city Duma.

«For all the contest applications were submitted by 44 people. Two more people were awaiting registration. As they submitted their documents before the end of the day, their applications will be accepted», — said the Agency interlocutor.

Among the participants – the acting head of Samara Vladimir Vasilenko, the Deputy of the Samara provincial Duma Mikhail Matveev, the Deputy Director of Department of legal maintenance and control of the Ministry of Far East development (Moscow), Dmitry Jakovenko, the head of administration of Zheleznodorozhny district of Samara Elena Latushkina. Also on a post of the mayor of Samara expect entrepreneurs, University staff and the unemployed.

The competition Commission of 20 people will choose the winner on December 21. Ten members of the Commission, says the Duma of Samara, the second half of the list is formed by the Governor of the Samara region.

The former mayor of Samara Oleg Fursov has left his position and since November 1 has moved to the position of regional Minister of labour and employment, which he had previously taken. Now duties of the mayor of Samara performed by Vladimir Vasilenko. He is also the first Deputy head of the city.

Fursov took office in October 2015. He was elected to the post of the city Duma for a term of 5 years. Previously, he was head of administration of Samara. From 2012 to 2014 he served as Minister of labour, employment and migration policy of the region.

Direct election of the mayor of Samara canceled by the decision of the regional Duma in September 2014. The last elected mayor was Dmitry Azarov, who is now acting Governor of the region.
