The results of the joint experimental experience on planting and cultivation of 16 kinds of Chinese medicinal herbs in the climatic conditions of the Altai region will fail in the framework of the forum on investment development in the field of traditional Chinese medicine of the participating countries of SCO, the official website of the regional administration.

According to the website, the main platform for the processing of medicinal raw materials grown in the Altai region plans to become a one-industry town Novoaltaysk, recently received the status of priority development areas.

According to the Vice-President of the Council of the Association of producers and consumers of traditional herbal medicines Sergei Mukhortova, over the past year there have been several important developments in the field of restoration of the sector of medicinal plant cultivation and processing of medicinal raw materials in Russia.

«The first 16 kinds of Chinese herbs were planted this spring at several experimental sites. Woad dyeing, burdock common, Mongolian dandelion, Bupleurum Chinese, Solomonic two other medicinal plants, which, if they do not grow in the Altai, we are here close «species family». Therefore, the first year of the experiment on the cultivation of ended impressive results. So, there was confidence that the Chinese interest will grow into a long and mutually beneficial cooperation», — said Mukhortov.

According to head of the Department of taxonomy of plants of South-Siberian Botanical garden, Altai state University Sergey Smirnov, and for some types, the yield was even greater than in similar conditions in China. This was confirmed by colleagues from the University of traditional Chinese medicine and development Institute of plant growing, Academy of medical Sciences of China.

«However, the Chinese do not really like the look of the rhizomes is very much they had grown in the fertile Altai soil. Traditional Chinese medicine is not only important medicinal properties of plants, but also external beauty. It turns out, dandelion, and burdock should perfectly match the customers ‘ expectations,» said Smirnov.

Experts estimate the needs of the Asian market of natural products from vegetable raw materials at the level of $ 100 billion.

A forum on investment development in the field of traditional Chinese medicine of the countries-participants of the SCO will last in Moscow until December 19. The forum will be signed the agreement of intent on improving the interaction and cooperation between the countries of the SCO member States and representatives of the region in the field of medicinal plant cultivation.
