The President of the European Jewish Congress (EJC) Viatcheslav Moshe Kantor expressed deep concern at the occurrence of the right Austrian freedom party led by Heinz-Christian strache, in coalition with the center-right Austrian people’s party of the Federal Chancellor, Sebastian Kurz.

«The Austrian freedom party known for its anti-Semitism and xenophobia, and we are concerned about the fact that its representatives will monitor the Ministry of the new Austrian government. However, we hope that despite the current situation, the Chancellor and his party from the national party will be able to control the elements of intolerance within the Party of freedom», — quotes the words of Cantor, the press service of the EJC.

The head of the EJC also noted that the freedom Party has attempted to correct those features of their past and ideology, but to reconsider its attitude to the party, the Jewish community needs to see concrete steps, proving that this is not another publicity stunt, otherwise the freedom Party will remain for the Jews of Austria unacceptable.

«The freedom party cannot use the Jewish community as a «Fig leaf» for their political games and is obliged to show tolerance and goodwill to all communities and minorities», — said the President of the EJC.
