The Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill urged not to separate the concepts of honor and dignity of the human person from the concept of conscience and moral law. On Tuesday, the day of memory of Prelate Nikolay Chudotvortsa, the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church celebrated the divine Liturgy at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior.

«If you open the famous explanatory dictionary of Dahl, for the words «honesty» or «honor» we find the following definition: honor is a pure conscience, is a virtue. <…> But in a secular view of human dignity there is nothing that ties the dignity or the honor of conscience», — said the Patriarch addressing the congregation with a sermon.

He noted that the concept of «human dignity» is the cornerstone of modern non-religious philosophical Outlook on life, and that of understanding human dignity derived theory of human rights, when «every person has dignity, however, and rights.» However, recognized the Primate, in this paradigm, «there is no internal connection between moral nature, moral law and human dignity, and therefore there is no liability.»

«The dignity of man inherent in automatically, and then it is automatically inherent in all rights. Whatever man may be, good or bad, it is in a secure state, because it does not require anything, it is by nature possessed of both dignity and rights. But the Apostle Paul teaches us another way: honesty is where a clear conscience. And it is surprising that Dahl in his dictionary connects these concepts, almost echoing of the Apostle Paul: I can’t be the honor and dignity without a clear conscience,» — said the head of the ROC.

In his opinion, that the dignity and human rights detached from his moral nature and moral responsibility, and is based «the main mistake of the modern civilization». It is supposed, continued the Patriarch, each having rights and dignity, it is not responsible to his conscience, this concept «does not exist». As a result, according to him, it turns out that «people striving to achieve this world’s goods, they violate their moral dignity.»

«Is it possible to associate the dignity and moral principle, on the one hand, with the increase in crime, such cynicism in behavior? I’m not talking about the terrible manifestation of his internal beast in man, when he commits criminal acts, killing innocent people. We know, as of now suffered from terrorism for the entire human race. So how much more suffering must go through many trials — wars, conflicts, terrorist acts, destruction of human relationships to realize the simple truth that teaches us today, the Apostle Paul cannot be of the honour and dignity without any reference to these concepts with the voice of human conscience», — concluded the Patriarch.

In day of memory of Prelate Nikolay in Moscow held a traditional charity event «Day of mercy and compassion to all in bondage and dungeons». Its purpose, as noted in the Patriarchate, is «the involvement of the Church and secular society to the Christian care to persons who are in places of imprisonment». The tradition of holding in the capital of such acts of charity with the Commission of special prayer services for inmates have been established in recent years.
