Sculptor Andrey Kovalchuk who created the monument to the legendary chief of foreign intelligence of the KGB during the Second world war Paul Phytin, under whose leadership, the intelligence extracted valuable information of a strategic nature, was the winner of the prize SVR 2017 for the best works in literature and art of the Russian external intelligence.

Solemn presentation of awards took place on Monday in the headquarters of the foreign intelligence Service. The award was presented by the Director of the SVR Sergey Naryshkin.

The monument to the Phytin was opened in October of this year on the territory of the press Bureau of the SVR.

The winner of the prize was also awarded to Lyudmila Snigireva and Elena Nikolaeva — authors of the documentary film «Kim Philby. The secret war», shown on the First channel, and columnist of the newspaper «Moskovsky Komsomolets» on the eve Marichevoy for the cycle of publications about the scouts.

«Recently there is tremendous interest in the history of Russian foreign intelligence. And today we pay tribute to the present the laureates for their great contribution to the popularization of the glorious pages of our Service,» said Naryshkin, whose words are quoted in the press Bureau of the SVR.
