The British foreign Secretary Boris Johnson said in an interview with the Polish Agency PAP that he does not believe in the possibility of restarting relations with Russia.

Relations between Russia and the West deteriorated over the situation in Ukraine and around the Crimea. Western countries repeatedly accused Russia of aggression, interference in the internal Affairs of States and the impact on the election. Russia has repeatedly denied these accusations, calling them unfounded and saying that the West uses these allegations as a pretext in order to accommodate more machinery and battalions near the Russian border. The West imposed sanctions against Russia, Moscow has retaliated, has embarked on import substitution and has repeatedly said that talking with her in language of sanctions counterproductive.

This week, Johnson plans to visit Russia.

According to Johnson, he «never for a moment believe that it is possible to reset relations with Russia.»

«We remember the tragic story (ex-Secretary of state — ed.) Hillary Clinton and her «reset» of relations with Russia. I don’t believe that’s possible at this stage — there is no way to continue the relationship like nothing happened,» he said.

The Minister stressed that the United Kingdom never opposed the introduction of sanctions against Russia, and promised that in this matter London «will remain steadfast» in defending its fundamental principles.

Johnson also noted that the position of London and of Moscow «in Ukraine and Syria are very different,» the issue of Iran and nuclear agreement «we have similar views on the need to preserve this Treaty.» «Maybe we are able to constructively talk about North Korea and how to reduce the temperature of the crisis, increasing pressure on the regime in Pyongyang», he added.

The head of British diplomacy in favor of maintaining working relations with Russia.

«There are certain topics that I would like to discuss, but it is extremely important one may be no question about the fact that relations looked, as if nothing ever happened,» concluded Johnson.
