US call to free detainees in Myanmar, two journalists of Reuters, told reporters, state Department spokesman Heather Nauert.

«We urge their immediate release,» said Nauert, stressing that no family of journalists, nor the US government know nothing about the whereabouts of the staff of the Agency.

«We hope the Burmese government will tell us and their families», — said Nauert using alternative name for Myanmar.

Journalists, according to Reuters, were detained in the largest city of Myanmar Yangon last week, the reason for detention was not reported. The Agency is trying to obtain additional information about the circumstances of the detention of their journalists and the current state of things.

According to the local Frontier Myanmar, the police stopped journalists late in the evening in one of the outlying areas of the city and searched them. During the inspection the men discovered two military report and a map of villages in Rakhine state which is currently engulfed in conflict. In this regard, they are suspected of illegal possession of military documents. The maximum penalty for this offence is 14 years imprisonment.

An employee of the Agency To VA LON (Lone Wa Ko) has previously worked in the newspaper Myanmar Times. He joined the staff of Reuters in July 2016.
