The Ministry of health in their assessments of the prospects for the sale of alcohol via the Internet comes from the fact that additional points of sale of alcohol in Russia is not needed, their increase will lead to more alcohol consumption by the population, said the Director of the Department of public health & communications Ministry of health of Russia Oleg Salagay.

«We believe that at the moment we have no problems with the availability of alcohol, we have no need to open additional outlets. If we talk about the availability of alcohol, according to the international documents, world health organization, an increase in the number of points of sales leads to a greater availability of alcohol and increased consumption. And I repeat that our objective is the overall reduction of alcohol consumption,» Salagai told reporters.

Thus, according to him, the issue of online sales of alcohol must act «prudently, moderately, and correct».

In mid-November, the RF Ministry of Finance published a third version of the bill early in the online trade of alcohol in Russia. According to the new version, from 1 January 2018 in Russia may be allowed Internet sales of beer and beer drinks, cider, Poire (pear cider), Mead, wine and Russian champagne, but only for manufacturers and wholesalers. From 2019 they will be able to sell on the Internet and the rest of the alcohol, and from 2021 retail sales of alcohol via the Internet will be available to retailers and catering enterprises.
