«Civil planes Dry» (GSS) conducted the first test flight of the Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ100) aircraft with winglets, which reduce fuel consumption, and improve takeoff and landing performance, the company said on Thursday.

«In the city Zhukovskiy took place the first test flight of the Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft with winglets installed. The configuration of the tip of the sword mounted on the Sukhoi Superjet 100 is a result of complex computational research, engineering and experimental work conducted by the developer of the aircraft company Sukhoi Civil aircraft with the participation of the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute named after Professor N. Ye», — stated in the message.

The geometry of the tip was determined with the use of innovative methods for three-dimensional optimization on the basis of numerical calculations of aerodynamics (CFD), which are a unique development of TSAGI, actively used in the aviation industry, particularly in the program of Sukhoi Superjet 100.

According to the results of the experimental works revealed that the installation of winglets allows saber to simultaneously improve takeoff and landing characteristics and reduce fuel consumption by at least 3%. The expected improvement in landing characteristics will appreciate the airlines operating the SSJ100 regional network of aerodromes, as well as in hot climates and high altitude.

«The company «Sukhoi Civil aircraft» is consistently implementing a program of development of the Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft with the aim of expanding markets for its sales, number of customers, growth of satisfaction of operators and maintaining a high level of competitiveness. The introduction of winglets that are part of this improvement program aircraft, in particular, would save airlines up to 5 million rubles per year for one SSJ100″ — said the President of the company Alexander Rubtsov, whose words are reported.

GSS (included in «Dry», the structure of the United aircraft Corporation, KLA) is a developer and manufacturer of the Sukhoi Superjet 100. The company was established in 2000, is 100% owned by aviation holding company «Sukhoi».
