The Ministry of communications is working on improving the media literacy of the population, the Agency wants to clarify that it is not necessary to put personal information in social networks, because it can be used by criminals, said Deputy Minister Alexei Volin.

«We believe it is necessary, and our Ministry is actively engaged in this, the development and dissemination of media literacy both among adults and among children,» said Wolin on the meeting of the governmental Commission on Affairs of minors.

According to him, there are five key indicators of media literacy. Among them, the ability to use the Internet and find required information, the ability to distinguish verified information from sources unverified.

The third direction, according to Volin is teaching parents about the parental controls and the ability to warn children about the dangers and problems contained in the Internet.

«The fourth applies to children and parents, learning that it is not necessary to distribute personal information about themselves in social networks on the Internet, because we know that very often children and adults become gestures of criminal attacks just as a result of the fact that they themselves suggested the criminals, and hackers», he explained.

A final indicator of media literacy is healthy skepticism and check any published online information, concluded Wolin.
