Kabul announced plans to prepare a «road map» for starting the peace dialogue with the Taliban*, let’s see what the results will be in practice, but the fact that the government of Afghanistan began to show flexibility on this issue can be considered encouraging, said in an interview with RIA Novosti the special representative of the President of the Russian Federation, Director of second Asia Department at the Russian foreign Ministry Zamir Kabulov.

«Held in early December in Oslo meeting of the International contact group for Afghanistan, Deputy foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Hekmat Khalil Karzai announced plans Kabul for the preparation of the road map to launch peace talks with the Taliban*. Let’s see what will be the practical results,» said Kabulov.

«In any case, it is encouraging that the Kabul begins to show flexibility to the question of launching negotiations. Six months ago, we heard from the lips of some official representatives of the Islamic Republic that any negotiations with the Taliban cannot be and speeches» — said a senior diplomat.

He commented on the recent call by national security Advisor of the President of Afghanistan Hanif Atmar to Russia to «convince» the Taliban to sit at the negotiating table.

«The call of Kabul can be seen as a positive signal, but we should not exaggerate the capabilities of the Russian channels of communication and leverage on the Taliban. It is well known that contacts with the Taliban are almost all countries in the region, as well as a number of players from outside the region. Interested regional and international partners should provide all possible assistance in facilitating the peace process,» said Kabulov.
