The issue of raising the minimum wage (SMIC) to a living wage will need to decide within two years, said Finance Minister Anton Siluanov.

«The President’s decision on whether to increase the minimum wage to the subsistence level. We need to solve the issue as quickly as possible — in the next year or two,» he told reporters on the sidelines of the Congress of the EP.

The state Duma adopted a government bill to raise the minimum wage to the subsistence level December 15. From 1 January 2018, the minimum wage will be set at 85% of the subsistence minimum is 9489 rubles, and starting January 1, 2019 it will always be set to the size of the subsistence minimum for the second quarter of the year preceding the establishment of the minimum wage.
