Police in Istanbul detained more than 20 foreigners on suspicion of having links with ISIS*

Police in Istanbul during an anti-terrorism RAID detained at least 22 foreign nationals suspected of involvement in the terrorist group «Islamic state»* (banned in Russia), reports the newspaper Milliyet on Monday.

According to a source in law enforcement bodies, the operation took place in two districts of Istanbul. The detainees, allegedly fought on the side of terrorists in Syria and Iraq. Their citizenship is not reported. During the operation, were seized materials on digital media, proving the involvement of the detainees to terrorist activity.

After the outbreak of armed conflict involving ISIS* in Syria and Iraq, Turkish police detained more than 5 thousand the persons suspected of involvement in the activities of this terrorist group. There were 3,290 people from 95 countries, more than 38 thousands denied entry to Turkey. In custody are 780 people, including 350 foreigners, some of them convicted on terrorism charges.
