Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed condolences to the families of the deceased on the eve of academician Andrei Zaliznyak, reported on the Kremlin website.

«Please accept my deepest condolences, words of support and involvement in connection with befell you grief. Did not the Andrey Anatolyevich Zaliznyak, a distinguished philologist, talented, and devoted to the vocation of the human person», — is spoken in the message.

According to the President, Zaliznyak has contributed much to the development of the national school of linguistics and strengthening its international authority, have made an enormous contribution to the study of the unique monuments of old Russian literature, in conservation of historical and cultural heritage.

«The bright memory of Andrey Anatolyevich will remain forever in the hearts of his family, friends, colleagues and numerous pupils,» — said Putin.

Zaliznyak, died Sunday at the 83rd year of life.

Academician Andrey Zaliznyak — linguist, specialist in the field of modern and historical Russian grammar, comparative and General linguistics. A number of works devoted to the study of the Novgorod birch-bark letters. Also thanks to the research Zaliznyak was completed the debate on the authenticity of the manuscript of «the Word about Igor’s regiment». Zaliznyak was awarded the State prize of the Russian Federation and the highest prize of Russian Academy of Sciences, a Large gold medal named after Lomonosov.
