The new radar system is necessary to ensure the safety of aircraft, will begin work at the airport of Petrozavodsk in 2018, said the press service of the Russian security Council.

Deputy security Council Secretary Rashid Nurgaliyev, located in Karelia on a working visit, on Tuesday inspected completion of a course of works on installation of one of the objects the radar system glide – path beacon, necessary for the formation of the trajectory of the decline coming on Board the aircraft. Works on modernization and reconstruction of the airport «Petrozavodsk» is being conducted in preparation for the upcoming in 2020, the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Karelia.

«The main task is to provide security and all-season flights. All citizens who arrive at our airport should be confident that whatever the weather their safety is assured. It is important for us to ensure the compliance of our airport to international standards,» — said Nurgaliyev, whose words are quoted in the message.

All the work on the first phase of security go to term – to complete installation of the radio beacon was planned before December 20, the report says. Currently the property is undergoing flight test: a laboratory plane, which estimates the parameters of the fitness facility. «The test results will depend on the term of input of object in operation. Presumably, the crews, flying to Petrozavodsk, you start to use the new radar system at the end of January next year», — stated in the message.

Second, directional radio beacon is planned to mount in March 2018, concrete pad for installation is ready. This equipment is used by pilots long before the approach to the runway and transmits the information to control the aircraft relative to the landing course when performing a landing approach to the decision height.

Nurgaliyev chaired the working group on development of single-industry towns, acting in the state Commission for preparation for the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Karelia. A state Commission headed by security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev. During the current visit of the interior will hold a series of meetings on the socio-economic development of the region.

The state Commission on preparation for celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Karelia was founded in 2013 by presidential decree. The work of the state Commission is aimed at creating conditions for advancing social and economic development of Karelia, increase of level and quality of life of the population, including by creating a favourable investment climate, development of public-private partnerships.

In addition, priority activities of the state Commission is to coordinate Federal Executive authorities and Executive authorities of the Republic of Karelia carrying out in the region for effective socio-economic, industrial, scientific-technological and innovation policy.
