The Federation Council urged the EU to condemn the Latvian law, equalizing veterans of the SS and the red Army

The Federation Council has called on the parliaments of the countries of the European Union and all States that supported the UN General Assembly resolution on combating glorification of Nazism, to condemn adopted by the Saeima law, equating the veterans of the SS and the red Army.

«The Federation Council calls on the parliaments of the member States of the EU, as well as all States that supported the resolution of the UN General Assembly «combating the glorification of Nazism, neo-Nazism and other practices that contribute to fuelling contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance», strongly condemn adopted by the Parliament of the Republic of Latvia law «On the status of the participant of the Second world war» as a challenge to the world community, the historical memory of the peoples who defeated Nazism,» — said in the Federation Council adopted on Tuesday a statement.

Also the Federation Council has urged EU countries to Express «strong protest to this legal arbitrariness» in modern Europe, «where the collaboration during the Second world war strongly condemned a true democratic States and societies».
