The head of Crimean Parliament Vladimir Konstantinov hopes that the UN will not leave without attention the appeal of the parliamentarians of the Crimea, who invited representatives of the countries participating in the UN to visit the Peninsula and to assess the situation with human rights.

The UN General Assembly last week adopted a Ukrainian resolution on the situation of human rights in Crimea. The resolution was voted 70, against — 26, 76 countries abstained. Among those who supported the initiative, most of the European countries and the USA. In particular, the General Assembly condemned «the current temporary occupation by the Russian Federation of the territory of Ukraine,» reiterating «the non-recognition of its annexation». In the document Russia «urge» to carry out 12 recommendations to «put an immediate end to all violations and abuses of human rights against the inhabitants of Crimea».

In response, on December 25, the Presidium of the Crimean Parliament appealed to the General Assembly with a proposal to visit the Crimea for the representatives of the member countries of the UN were able to give an objective assessment of the situation with human rights in the region. The document must be handed over to the UN through the foreign Ministry.

«The fact that the official representatives of these countries had been misled. We invited them to visit Crimea with your own eyes to see how indeed we have a situation with human rights. So — waiting for next year to our country a real pilgrimage parliamentary delegations. I hope so,» said Konstantinov at the closing session of this year’s regular session of the Crimean Parliament.
