Tests of RD-171МВ for new Russian rocket middle class «Soyuz-5» is scheduled to begin in 2019, according to the manufacturer of the engines NPO «Energomash».

«Today, the company is actively preparing for the production of engine RD-171МВ of the first testing units which will start in 2019», — stated in the message.

RD-171МВ developed on the basis of the world’s most powerful liquid engine RD-170, various modifications of which were used in Soviet heavy rocket «Energy» and Russian-Ukrainian family of rockets «Zenit».

«Soyuz-5» — the rocket of the middle class developed in Russia to replace Ukrainian «Zenith». The media will be able to output in low-earth orbit of up to 17 tonnes payload, including the manned program, and in geostationary orbit (with booster) — up to 2.5 tons. The first flight of the new missile is scheduled for 2022.
