Next, in 2018 will be held in the Nenets Autonomous district under the banner of «Year of reindeer herding,» said the acting head of the NAO, Alexander Tsybulsky on his page Vkontakte.

«So decided the residents of our County, giving a majority of their votes for this topic. I fully support those who have shown civil activity, taking part in the survey,» Cybulski wrote.

He said that one of the first inhabitants of the NAO, who told him about how reindeer live today, and what problems you encounter, the things you worry about and hope for was Igor Ledkov, who died in a plane crash at the airport of Naryan-Mar on 19 December this year.

«The life of Igor ended as a result of the terrible crash. We managed to agree that reindeer herding I would pay very close attention. So be it,» said Cybulski.

Just two polls over the choice of the theme of the year was attended 1879. «The year of the reindeer husbandry» was supported by 503 people, or 26.8% of the respondents. Only 10 votes less scored the tourism – 493 votes, or 26.2 percent. Third number of votes was the theme of «the Year of high technologies» — 245 votes, or 13%.

Today in the Nenets Autonomous district is home to more than 7.5 thousand representatives of indigenous peoples of the North — the Nenets, that is the 17,83% of the total population. In the reindeer herding employs 870 people, with nomadic or semi-nomadic (herders and chumrabotnitsa). The number of reindeer according to 1 July 2017 is 191,47 of thousands of animals. Reindeer herding activities in the Nenets Autonomous district is carried out 22 companies of different ownership forms: one is a state unitary enterprise, 12 agricultural production cooperatives, one of which unites more than 40 peasant farms. In addition, the reindeer herding employs 11 family of tribal communities of indigenous peoples of the North.
