The number of Russians who became donors over the past few years: if in 2015 their share was 39%, in 2017 – already 47 per cent, said on Wednesday the all-Russia centre of studying of public opinion (VTSIOM).

According to the study, which polls conducted jointly with the Russian Red Cross, in 2017, 12% of Russians at least once, but became donors, 15% donated blood at least a few times, 20% — more than 3 times. Not yet participated in programs blood 52% of the population, according to sociologists.

The majority of respondents (59%) informed about the location of the nearest blood Center (among previously repeatedly passes the blood – 77%, among non-donor experience – 49%).

About 57% of Russians believe that the country there is a shortage of donor blood. At the same time the feelings of the Russians, the shortage of donor blood is decreasing: in 2008, 76% of respondents said that supply of blood is not enough. However, sociologists say, monetary compensation are not seen as incentive for participation: 58% believe that it is necessary to develop other forms of incentive donation (in 2008, 55% believed that increasing the number of donors, it is sufficient only to increase the size of payments).

According to the survey, the main reasons for participation in donor movement: compassion for people in General (56%), the desire to help a specific person (39%). That donated blood for the sake of material reward, said only 8% of donors.

«Interestingly, the citizens, never were donors, put the financial motive into second place in the ranking of the reasons for the blood donors (32%), and their participation explained primarily by health (48%),» — emphasizes the polls.

In addition, more than three quarters (81%) staff and students expressed willingness to participate in the donation campaign, if it was carried out at the place of work/study.

«According to the survey, employers’ attitudes towards employees, donors loyally: 44% of donors rated it as positive and only 6% described as negative. Practice for design of compensatory time off provided to donors according to the law, were at 40% of the population ever completes the blood,» concludes the poll.

The initiative Russian opinion «polls-Sputnik» was held on 4-6 December, 1800 respondents were interviewed. The maximum size of the error with 95% probability does not exceed 2.5%.
