Only 4% of citizens of Ukraine, who went to EU countries, took advantage of visa-free regime, reported the assistant to the Chairman of state frontier service of Russia, Oleg Slobodyan, his words leads Strenia.

«Almost 380 thousand citizens of Ukraine took bezveza, at least it is at the moment (as of 27 December 2017 — ed). It is only those who went to EU countries, starting from 11 June, with only a biometric passport,» the official said.

According Slobodyan, which is about 4% of the number of citizens of Ukraine from June 11-went to EU countries. The rest had either a biometric passport with a long-term Schengen visa or the document of the old sample (without a chip with biometric data).

«Given that the Migration service has issued about five million biometric passports in the next year we expect to increase the number of our compatriots who use bezveza», — said Slobodyan.

From 11 June, the Ukrainian citizens of visa-free travel to the Schengen countries with biometric passport. Free access to 90 days within six months, the citizens of Ukraine to get a tourist, business and family purposes, but the right to work or study, such a regime does not. The European Union can suspend the visa-free regime with Ukraine.

The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that the visa-free regime «returns Ukraine to its historic place in the European countries» and establishes «the divorce with the Russian Empire.»
