Detained in Russia on suspicion of espionage citizen of Norway was a member of the intelligence, said on Thursday the official representative of Russian foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.

«Indeed, on 5 December in Moscow while conducting espionage operations detained a representative of the Norwegian intelligence, a subject of Norway, Mr. Berg. He is in Russia on a tourist visa. On the sixth of December in the relation it criminal case under article 276 of the criminal code «espionage», Zakharova said at the briefing. She added that the Lefortovo district court of the citizen of Norway determined the measure of restraint in form of detention.

«The Norwegian Embassy in Moscow was informed about the incident in the prescribed manner. Currently, Mr. Berg is in the detention center «Lefortovo». Granted all statutory rights, including the assistance of a lawyer, interpreter, consular appointments and medical care. Complaints or any claims by the defendant is not received,» — said Zakharov.

However, she ruled out the possibility that this incident is «globally» affect Russian-Norwegian relations.
