The security service of Ukraine (SBU) has suggested that the journalist Vasily Myravitski, accused Ukraine of treason for their publication in the media, to participate in the exchange of prisoners in the Donbass in the case of a guilty plea, but he refused, said Thursday RIA Novosti his lawyer Andrew Goy.

On Wednesday, Ukraine held the largest during the conflict in the Donbass and first 15 months of the exchange of prisoners. Kiev handed over 73 people, the self-proclaimed DNR and LC — 165 and 73 people respectively. According to the leader of the public movement «the Ukrainian choice — the right of the people» Victor Medvedchuk, the second stage of the prisoner exchange may take on the formula «74 29».

«Vasily exchange hint and offer it regularly. Investigators pose — full admission of guilt and a waiver of any complaints and appeals. He did not agree. And on yesterday’s exchange he was offered,» said Goy.

The security service of Ukraine (SBU) detained the Myravitski in Zhytomyr on August 1. He is suspected of state treason, encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine, violation of equality of citizens, creating a terrorist organization. According to the SBU, his articles have been published on «sites, which were administered from the Russian Federation and the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine». The Prosecutor’s office said that the journalist faces up to 15 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property. The decision of the court Muravitsky is under arrest.

Journalist pleads not guilty, the defense calls the charges absurd, and the Union of journalists of Ukraine says about the government’s violation of human rights and international law. The international organization Amnesty International considers Myravitski a prisoner of conscience and urged to release him immediately. The organization noted that all charges against the journalist stem from the fact of its work with Russian-language online resources.

The editor of, which also wrote Muravitsky Iskander Khisamov, called the prosecution of journalists in political repression. Secretary of the Union of journalists of Russia, member of the Executive Committee of the International Federation of journalists (IFJ) Timur Shafir believes such accusations are further proof that the Ukrainian authorities are trying to exclude from the information space in a different point of view.

The Russian foreign Ministry has called the detention of Myravitski the next episode of the campaign forced suppression of opposition mass media in Ukraine and called on the OSCE and the Council of Europe and international organizations to condemn the policy of Kiev against the media. The expense of such cases in Ukraine runs into tens: the latter, in particular, and the persecution of the editor of the Internet portal «Strenia» of the Igor Guzhva, who was detained in Kiev on June 22 on suspicion of extortion. Guzhva said the case against him planned provocation.
