The law on raising the minimum wage (SMIC) signed on Friday with Russian President Vladimir Putin is an important decision, said in an interview with NSN Senator Valery Ryazansky.

In his opinion, a living wage should include not only food and necessities. «It is important to track the price right, the food group of commodities, industrial, services,» — said the Senator. He added that people «can’t live with only minimum consumer basket».

On Friday, the President signed the instrument of raising the minimum wage to a living wage. Previously, the bill approved by the state Duma and the Federation Council. Since January the minimum wage will be 85% of the subsistence minimum, or 9489 rubles, and a year later, this figure will reach 100%. Currently the minimum wage is 7800 rubles.
