The damage from the oil spill in the Black sea in the sea port of Novorossiysk amounted to more than 5 million rubles, according to the southern transport Prosecutor’s office.

One cubic meter of oil spilled in the Black sea on January 8 in the Bay Tsemess (Novorossiysk) at the pier, rented a public joint stock company «Novorossiysk commercial sea port» of the vessel under the flag of Malta. According to prosecutors, the incident happened through the fault of the older mechanics of the ship, the 56-year-old citizen of the Philippines.

«Pollution of the Tsemess Bay of the Black sea occurred due to the lack of adequate supervision of senior mechanic of a vessel, whose duties, in accordance with the job description of a shipping company is monitoring the filling of fuel tanks of bunker fuel. Novorossiysk transport Prosecutor’s office upheld the decision to open a criminal case against a mechanic who is suspected of pollution of the marine environment.
