The first Deputy Chairman of the Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian integration and relations with compatriots Konstantin Zatulin («United Russia») has proposed to denounce the Treaty on friendship, cooperation and partnership between Russia and Ukraine in the part where countries recognize the territorial boundaries of each other.

The Deputy considers that the Treaty «one-sided bargain» Ukraine. «For, not to mention partnerships, cooperation and friendship, in the second article of the Treaty we recognise the territorial boundaries of Ukraine, and they, respectively, of our, at the time of signature and ratification of this document. We are talking about the fact that, by signing this Agreement, Russia in 1997, and then ratified in 1999 confirmed that it considers, say, the Crimea and Sevastopol a part of the territory of Ukraine», — said the Deputy.

According to Zatulin, then, in 90-e years the Russian side has actively fought against the provisions of the document on the boundaries. «(Representatives of Russia — ed.) said that it can’t be that, even if we agree to it, you need to specify is much more specific terms, why the Agreement was not» — said the MP.

«Our interpretation of the Contract is that, of course, our confession in this Agreement, boundaries linked to the theme of the Treaty of friendship, cooperation and partnership. That is, there is no friendship, cooperation and partnership, the idea is that there is a reason to say: «that Means we need to solve all the questions again, including the border». So personally, I will offer and offer already… what we need, at least in part the Treaty, denounce it in respect of the second article, namely, recognition of borders,» — said Zatulin RIA Novosti.

The Treaty on friendship, cooperation and partnership between Russia and Ukraine is the basic document of Russian-Ukrainian relations. It involves a strategic partnership between the two countries «on the basis of principles of mutual respect, sovereign equality, territorial integrity, inviolability of borders, peaceful settlement of disputes, non-use of force or threat by force, including economic and other means of pressure».
