The seeds of unity in the Russian society during the civil war and the Soviet rebellion thanks to the Russian Orthodox Church, said Russian President Vladimir Putin.

An excerpt of the documentary «Valaam» was shown in the program «Vesti of the week» on «Russia 1».

«When Soviet troops were ready to enter the Islands of the archipelago, for some reason they stayed on the shore and invited the priest from the monastery. One of them went, and suddenly a Soviet officer said to him: «How long will you need to collect and leave?». Thought, asked for a few days, collected all the most precious of all relics, have left and all were taken,» — said Putin, noting that about this case told him at the monastery.

«You know, in this context, what I thought, of course, in these difficult days of the civil war, then rebellion, when he laid these seeds split in Russian society, the seeds of unity always remained with us in the first place because the Russian Orthodox Church. And that the officers then allowed the monks to leave and take all the relics, this is the best evidence that the seeds of unity, unification, they always did not leave us», — concluded the President.
