Vice-Premier of the Russian government Olga Golodets expressed hope that the festival «Russian seasons» will lead to new, great works of culture, it is its main purpose.

On Sunday, the orchestra of the Mariinsky theatre under Valery Gergiev opened the festival of Russian culture «Russian seasons» in Rome. The Russian delegation in the Italian capital was headed by Vice-Premier of the Russian government.

At a press conference dedicated to the festival, Golodets noted that the opening of the «Russian seasons» in Italy was at the highest level. The project «the Russian seasons» revives created more than a hundred years ago by Sergei Diaghilev tradition, she added.

«The revival of this project, we believe, will also lead to a qualitative change of cultural and humanitarian relations in the world and we hope it will lead to the emergence of new great works of culture — that is the main aim of the festival «Russian seasons» in different countries», — said Deputy Prime Minister.

She added that Italy is a special place and Russia, with a fondness for Italian culture and appreciates it.

«Russian seasons» in Italy will last until December 2018 and held in more than 40 cities of Italy. The program 255 events: Opera, ballet and theatre performances, concerts, exhibitions, screenings of Russian films. Among the participants – the State academic Bolshoi theatre of Russia, Mariinsky theatre, Alexandrinsky theatre, Academic theatre, the State Hermitage Museum.

The initiators of the festival are the government and the Ministry of culture of Russia.

In 2017, «Russian seasons» were held with great success in Japan.
