The clergy of the Russian Orthodox Church on the feast of the Epiphany on 19 January, will consecrate water in all four oceans: Arctic, Atlantic, Indian and Pacific, told RIA Novosti the Russian Orthodox Church.

«Traditionally, every year on Epiphany eve and on the feast of the Baptism of the clergy of the Moscow Patriarchate blesses the water, including in the public domain. And of course, the priests of the temples located in the coastal settlements on the coasts of the oceans, can sanctify and ocean water», — told RIA Novosti Secretary for far-abroad countries of the Department for external Church relations of the Moscow Patriarchate Archpriest Sergiy Zvonarev.

According to him, the Patriarchal parishes are, in particular, in several countries in South and South-East Asia: Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

Religious studies Director of the human rights center of world Russian people’s Council Roman Silantyev said that some sanctify the oceans at several points, for example, the Arctic ocean (on its banks there are several parishes of the Russian Church).

One of the points where I will sanctify the Arctic ocean, will be the coast of the Laptev sea in the village of Tiksi (Yakutia).

Archpriest Timothy zolotusky told RIA Novosti that shone on Friday, Atlantic ocean on the shores of Reykjavik (Iceland). Father Timothy for several years sanctifies the Baptism of the Atlantic ocean. According to him, «on the coast are numerous Icelanders, some of whom, despite the cold, decided to follow the ancient Christian tradition and immersed in consecrated water.»

Archimandrite Alexander (Zarkeshev) said that the afternoon of 19 January from the coast in Dubai (United Arab Emirates) will sanctify the waters of the Arabian Gulf, connected to the Strait of Hormuz, the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian sea with the Indian ocean.

The Pacific ocean shone from the coast of the Russian Federation in the area of the Japanese (Novik Bay) and Okhotsk (Bay of Gertner) waters and off the coast of Thailand (Gulf of Thailand, connected with the ocean).
