. Pope Francis called for the urgent resumption of dialogue between Israel and Palestine aimed at the peaceful coexistence of two States within the framework agreed between the borders and with full respect for the special status of Jerusalem.

«I assure you that will not fail to continue to pray for peace, true peace. Especially pray that those responsible for the peoples civil and religious authorities took steps to prevent new waves of violence and the maintenance of any efforts to the predominance of harmony, justice and security for the people of this blessed Land,» said the Pontiff in his message to Sheikh Ahmad al-Tayyip, the Supreme Imam of one of the oldest and most prestigious Muslim theological universities in the world «al-Azhar». The text of the document made public Thursday by the Vatican.

«For its part the Holy see will not cease to call for the urgent resumption of dialogue between Israelis and Palestinians for a negotiated solution aimed at the peaceful coexistence of two States within the framework agreed between the borders recognized at the international level, while fully respecting the special nature of Jerusalem, whose value goes beyond any considerations regarding territorial issues,» said Francis.

In the papal message says that the special status of Jerusalem also needs to be guaranteed at the international level, which will allow in the future to achieve reconciliation in the middle East.
