Deputies of the state Duma of the Russian Federation will support a charity at the temple in Tehran

The Russian parliamentarians will support the charity center at the Orthodox parish in Tehran said the Chairman of the state Duma Committee on civil society development issues, public and religious organisations Sergey Gavrilov, during an official visit to Iran.

During the visit, the Deputy of the state Duma, in particular, visited St. Nicholas Cathedral of the Russian Orthodox Church in Tehran, met with the clergy and parishioners of the Cathedral.

«In the Orthodox parish in Tehran operates a charity for those in need of help and care people. At the moment in the centre in the care of the clergy of the Cathedral are 35 people. We will provide the necessary support for the development of this charity center,» said Gavrilov, who is also the coordinator of inter-factional Deputy group in protection of Christian values.

As noted, one of the most important problems nowadays is the threat of the spread of extremism and terrorism, hiding behind religious slogans. «Religious leaders have an important mission to save the flock from extremism and terrorism, education of youth in the spirit of mutual respect and understanding,» said Gavrilov, quoted by his press service.

Discussing the issue of strengthening of a civilized dialogue Islam and Christianity in Iran, members drew attention of the Deputy to respect for Orthodox believers on the part of the Iranian government.

«For two decades, there is a joint Russian-Iranian Commission for dialogue «Orthodoxy-Islam», which makes a significant contribution to the strengthening of intercultural and interfaith dialogue, as well as searches for solutions to overcome the spiritual and moral crisis in society» — said, in turn, Sergey Gavrilov. According to him, in a modern civilized state should be a combination of economic development with the preservation of religious and cultural traditions.
