Employees of the Pskov customs have stopped attempt of smuggling of and trafficking in Russia prohibited products — 13,1 tons of Polish mushrooms, the press service of the Pskov customs.

Was stopped three vehicles, EN route from Belarus to Russia. When checking the drivers filed invoices under which the goods should be domestic transportation from a warehouse in Moscow the warehouse in the Pskov region. However, due to suspicions about the authenticity of the submitted documents it was decided to conduct additional verification activities.

«As a result of the inspection with representatives of the Rosselkhoznadzor for Saint-Petersburg, the Leningrad and Pskov regions established that the actual country of origin of mushrooms is the Republic of Poland, that is, the goods forbidden to import on territory of the Russian Federation in accordance with the requirements of the decree of the President of the Russian Federation of 6 August 2014 No. 560 «On applying certain special economic measures to ensure security of the Russian Federation», — stated in the message.

Russian President Vladimir Putin at the end of July 2015 signed a decree of destruction from August 6 of the same year of products prohibited for import in the country under anticyclonic measures (the so-called food embargo). The government was allowed to destroy such food by any legal means.

This measure does not apply to goods imported by citizens for personal use. According to Russian authorities, the sanctions the destruction of products helps to reduce the flow of contraband food, as it becomes economically disadvantageous.
