In Moscow consider it necessary for the full lifting of the blockade of Yemen, which is now in its third year, continuing armed conflict, said Russian foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

«Russia welcomes the decision by the Arab coalition on the easing of the blockade of the Yemeni port of Hodeidah and the only traffic artery, which connects the main city of the country and its Northern province with the outside world,» the Russian Minister said after talks with Yemeni counterpart Abdel Malik al-Makhlafi.

He stressed that «it is important to achieve complete removal of sea and air blockade, the removal of all restrictions on the delivery of food, medicines, and other items of essential commodities».

In November the coalition after the attempt, Yemeni Houthi rebels continued to strike a ballistic strike on Riyadh imposed a blockade of all ports and airports in Yemen, closing the access of humanitarian aid to the country. The UN expressed concern about the situation, noting that the coalition’s actions can lead to a deterioration of the already difficult situation and famine.

Led by Saudi Arabia, the coalition later eased the blockade, opening of humanitarian aid to the ports of Hodeidah and Salif, as well as the airport controlled by the rebels in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa.

According to the UN, the humanitarian assistance needs of 22 million inhabitants of Yemen, more than eight million people threatened by starvation.
