The representative of the group of the liberal Democrats in the parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Dane Michael Jensen Haastrup accused Russia of blackmail.

«They say: «we don’t want to pay the fees in the organization, provided that there are sanctions against our parliamentary delegation,» said Jensen, speaking in PACE.

According to him, Moscow alone refused to participate in the Assembly. He stressed that the Russian delegation should return to the Assembly in terms of Assembly, which should not accept Moscow’s proposal to resolve the crisis.

Jensen pointed out that the PACE in favour of lifting the sanctions against the Russian delegation, provided that Moscow «will fulfill the resolution that we’ve proposed.»

«Because if we loosen the restriction of the right to vote, we’re gonna play a game of propaganda used against us. <…> We, a group of liberal Democrats, don’t want to be a tool of this game,» he said.

On Monday in Strasbourg opens the winter session of PACE.

The Russian delegation this time, as in the previous three years, does not participate in the session. Moscow 2016 is not forward at the PACE required for accreditation of the delegation documents as 2014-2015 it was deprived of the right to vote at sessions because of the position on the Crimea.

In Moscow repeatedly offered ways out of the crisis, in particular, have advanced the idea of a documentary to fix the inadmissibility of the imposition of sanctions in relation to national delegations. PACE, noting the importance of dialogue with Russia, did not respond to the Russian proposal.

At the end of June last year, Russia announced the suspension of payments to the budget of the Council of Europe for 2017 as long as the powers of delegation to the PACE did not recover.
