The Chisinau court dismissed the appeal of the former leader of Romania Traian Basescu, the annulment of the decree about the withdrawal of Moldovan citizenship signed by the President of the Republic, Igor Dodon said at a meeting on Monday judge Angela Braga.

In June 2016, the fourth President of Moldova Nicolae Timofti urgently gave Basescu the citizenship of the Republic. The new President of Moldova, Igor Dodon signed the decree about deprivation of former Romanian leader of the Moldovan citizenship on 3 January 2017. Basescu appealed to the Supreme court of justice with a claim against the Dodon. The Plenum of the court returned the statement of claim ex-President of Romania to appeal to the court of Chisinau.

«The court decided to reject as unfounded the appeal of Traian Basescu on the summons of the President of Moldova Igor Dodon for the annulment of the decree of the President of the Republic to revoke the citizenship of Moldova,» said Braga, adding that the decision can be appealed within 30 days of Appeal.

After the court hearing Basescu, answering a question of journalists whether he intends to appeal to the court of Appeal, noted that he needed to consult lawyers.

Basescu, a supporter of the recreation of the so-called «greater Romania» in the borders of 1939. Former Romanian leader openly declared that the Moldovan European integration aimed at the accession of Moldova to Romania. According to him, unification with Moldova should become the third important project in the foreign policy of Romania after accession to NATO and EU accession. Previously, the Romanian press reported that Basescu is a suspect in several criminal cases.
