The statement of the head of the General staff of the British armed forces General Nicholas Carter serves several purposes: discrediting Russia, the aggravation of confrontation with the West, the deterioration of Russia’s relations with CIS countries, says the head of the Federation Council Committee on defense and security Viktor Bondarev.

The head of the General staff of the armed forces of the United Kingdom earlier suggested that Russia may launch a «hostile act» quickly and in such ways that no one expects. The politician said that the confrontation between Russia, the West must examine its weaknesses and to remember that Russia respects force.

«The purposes (applications) are several: to discredit Russia in the world, an attempt to set against us, our allies, worsen our relations with CIS neighbours and to aggravate the confrontation with the West. But beyond that, it is important for them to untie his hands, «just in case». There is always another reason for the introduction of new sanctions for harassment of our officials, politicians, diplomats, journalists, public figures,» — said Bondarev, RIA Novosti.

According to him, the long history of Russia, including the Soviet period, suggests that our country the first ever did not attack anyone, and «not only in military but also in the broadest geopolitical sense.» However, the creation of an image of an aggressive Russia has become a habit of the Anglo-Saxons — first USA, which was designated by Russia in its national security Strategy as a «threat number one» along with China, and now the UK, said the Senator.

«Russian hacker, Russian occupier, the agent of the Kremlin is the best explanation of «disagreement» in domestic politics. And also attempts to mobilize the public around calling a criticism of government, both in Britain and in the United States, by shaping the image of strong foreign enemy against which to unite,» — said Bondarev.
