The organization of American States has recognized the election results in Honduras

The organization of American States (OAS) recognized on Monday the results of presidential elections in Honduras and the victory of Juan Orlando Hernandez, who became the head of state for the second time in a row.

Elections were held on 26 November, after the opposition organized powerful protests that turned into riots. Total killed at least 30 people. The protesters demanded a second round or a recount. The Secretary General of the OAS, Luis Almagro also called for the second round, not foreseen by the legislation of Honduras.

«The General Secretariat of the OAS demonstrates its strong commitment to work in the future with the elected authorities of Honduras at three levels – Executive, legislative, and municipal – in the framework of existing cooperation agreements to strengthen state institutions and electoral reforms that will ensure democratic, fair and solidary coexistence (of different political forces),» reads the statement of the OAS.

Last weekend in Honduras broke out a second wave of protests against the re-election of Hernandez. Was one person killed, several were injured and hundreds were arrested.
