The abolition of EU economic sanctions against Russia is ripe, the Deputy of the Federal Parliament of Belgium, Filip DeWinter.

«I think it’s time to cancel sanctions against Russia, because they are not only inconsistent with international law, but they are also unjust and completely counterproductive for Europe», — the parliamentarian told RIA Novosti.

According to him, due to the sanctions regime of the Belgian exporters annually lose 1.5 billion euros, «because they can not deliver to Russia fruits, vegetables, computer technology, and small arms and military equipment». «This situation must come to an end,» said DeWinter, announcing the intention to raise the Federal Parliament of Belgium, the question of cancellation of sanctions of the EU against Russia. «I think these sanctions are purely geopolitical strategy, which aims not only to weaken Russia but also in Europe,» — said the MP.

He called the problem a «lack sufficient information» (in Western media) about sanctions against Russia and the Russian leadership in the Crimea. «Our mass media present the situation is one-sided, not always as objective as it should be,» said DeWinter.

He is convinced that «Russia and Europe – the allies not only when it comes to the economy but also in politics.» «I am very grateful for the role the army and the government of Russia has played in Syria, because this country has been able to maintain itself as a secular state in the region that is captured by Muslim fundamentalists, supported by Saudi Arabia, Qatar and other Salafi countries», — said the MP.

Relations between Russia and the West deteriorated in connection with the situation in Ukraine and around the Crimea. The West is accusing Russia of meddling, have imposed sanctions, Moscow responded, took a course on import substitution and has repeatedly said that talking with her in language of sanctions counterproductive. Russia has repeatedly stated that it is not a party to the conflict in Ukraine and the subject of the Minsk agreements on the settlement. Lately in the EU clearly there are opinions on necessity of cancellation of sanctions against Russia.
