The speaker of the Israeli Knesset Yuli-Yoel Edelstein, during a speech in the European Parliament called on European countries to follow suit and recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

The European Jewish Congress organized in the European Parliament commemorative event «Holocaust memorial Day». Its purpose is to commemorate all those who died in the Holocaust and to convey to the present generations how important it is to know and remember the past in order to prevent the recurrence of such tragedies in the future. Commemorative event dedicated to the international Day of remembrance of the victims of the Holocaust on January 27. On this day the Soviet army liberated the largest concentration camp Auschwitz.

«The United States to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, after 70 years of independence, recognizing our ancient heritage and modern history. I would like to ask you to do so. Visit my capital, the city of the sacred – and all Israel – to improve life for the development of health and high-tech, for spiritual healing of all religions. Together we can remind them of how true the old prophecy: «And there will be old people in Jerusalem… and the streets will fill with children,» said Edelstein.

According to him, the European Parliament — «a source of inspiration for Europe and the world. «Use this status to use the values on which it was founded. Do that in Europe there was a place for any of its citizens. Together we can put an end to anti-Semitism,» — said the politician.

In December last year, the President of the United States Donald trump announced the recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and signed a document about the transfer of the us Embassy there from tel Aviv. The decision of the us leader was well received in Israel and aroused a negative reaction from many countries, primarily countries in the Middle East and Palestine.
