Air purification from pollutants may contribute to global warming. To such conclusion the group of scientists from the UK, USA, Norway and Germany. The results of their research are described in the journal Geophysical Research Letters.

Scientists have modeled several options of climate change, which include the disappearance of aerosols (sulfates and black carbon). They found that the purification of the atmosphere by such substances at the present level of carbon dioxide will enhance the greenhouse effect, the average temperature will increase by 0.5-1.1 degrees Celsius.

The fact that aerosols serve as a protective barrier, which absorbs some solar radiation. Without this «shield», the planet will heat up faster which in turn will lead to prolonged droughts and floods.
