Representative of the Russian Federation at the European Court of human rights, the Deputy head of the Ministry of justice Mikhail Galperin has led the Grand chamber of the ECHR arguments on the legality of the measures applied to Alexei Navalny during arrests at unsanctioned rallies in 2012-2014, said on Wednesday the press service of the Ministry of justice.

In may last year the court notified the Russian authorities on the transfer of reconsideration to the Grand Chamber of the decision by results of consideration of the five complaints «Navalnyy against Russia» in connection with the arrest of opposition for various violations during the 2012-2014 unauthorized mass actions and the subsequent attraction to administrative responsibility.

According to the Ministry, on Wednesday, Halperin spoke at the hearing in the Grand Chamber, in reviewing rulings on complaints Bulk. «In his statement and when answering the judges’ questions Halperin with references to jurisprudence of the European Court, as well as specific evidence and facts have argued about the absence of violations of the Convention for the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms in the present case», — stated in the message of Ministry of justice.

The Department clarifies that the authorities of the Russian Federation was formed by the Ministry of justice with participation of competent state authorities, the judgment of the Grand Chamber of the ECHR will be announced at a later date.

In February 2017, the Strasbourg court found Russia guilty of violating several articles of the European Convention on human rights on the complaint Navalny and decided to pay the opposition 63 thousand euros. The Bulk of complaints concerned his arrest and detention during the festivities on may 8, 2012, meetings in March 2012 and 24 February 2014.

Then the Ministry of justice stated that it considers questionable elected by the court method to the calculation of the amount of so-called «fair» compensation, which demonstrates the unjustified increase in the amount compared to similar cases and the complaints of more serious violations of the Convention.
