The Deputy of the Federal Parliament of Belgium Aldo Carcassi intends to submit to the Assembly a resolution urging the government of the Kingdom to initiate the abolition of EU economic sanctions against Russia.

«Soon I will again raise this issue. Moreover, times change, and at the end of this month, Prime Minister of Belgium Charles Michel will visit Moscow and meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Dare I hope that the relations between Belgium and Russia to be normalized, just as relations between the EU and Russia», — the parliamentarian told RIA Novosti.

According to him, «it’s time to remove these ridiculous sanctions, which yielded nothing, being counterproductive.»

«Russia is necessary to us. This fraternal country, a country-friend. This is our ally against terrorism», — said the MP.

He had previously submitted a draft resolution calling on the Belgian government «to intervene with the aim of lifting sanctions against Russia, explaining that the main victims was not Russia, and the Belgian fruit and vegetable producers». However, in January 2017, the Commission on foreign Affairs, house of representatives, Federal Parliament of Belgium has rejected a draft resolution calling on the government of the Kingdom to initiate the abolition of EU economic sanctions against Russia.

As reported earlier by RIA Novosti, the Deputy of the Belgian Parliament Filip DeWinter, due to the sanctions regime of the Belgian exporters annually lose 1.5 billion euros, «because they can not deliver to Russia fruits, vegetables, computer technology, and small arms and military equipment».

Relations between Russia and the West deteriorated in connection with the situation in Ukraine and around the Crimea. The West is accusing Russia of meddling, have imposed sanctions, Moscow responded, took a course on import substitution and has repeatedly said that talking with her in language of sanctions counterproductive. Russia has repeatedly stated that it is not a party to the conflict in Ukraine and the subject of the Minsk agreements on the settlement. Lately in the EU clearly there are opinions on necessity of cancellation of sanctions against Russia. In Belgium to discuss the question of the abolition of anti-Russian EU sanctions© RIA Novosti, Infographicsrussia against Russia and international trade
