In Kiev, the court continued the proceedings against Yanukovych of treason

Obolonskiy district court of Kiev continued on Thursday a criminal case against former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych of treason, the correspondent of RIA Novosti.

«The trial was declared, continued in the same part of judges,» said presiding judge Vladislav Devyatko.

According to the Prosecutor on the case of Ruslan Kravchenko, the court intends on Thursday to interrogate the leader of the Association «the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people» (organization recognized as extremist and banned in Russia) Refat Chubarov and employees of the state guard who were guarding Yanukovych.

The court in late June of 2017 began its consideration of the merits of treason against Yanukovych. This is one of a number of criminal cases which the new government of Ukraine brought against the former head of state after the coup in 2014. In the case of treason, the Prosecutor’s office intends to demand in court for Yanukovych to prison for life. The ex-President categorically denies any wrongdoing.
