The cooperation of secular universities with Islamic educational institutions in the framework of the joint programme brings Muslim education to a new level and makes it a fundamental, said the President of Russia Vladimir Putin meeting with the Muftis of centralized religious organizations of Muslims of Russia and the leaders of the Bulgarian Islamic Academy.

«Itself is a practice of interaction with large Federal universities is very important, especially at this stage of the development of religious education. Cooperation with a major educational institution, the science centre gives a whole different color and the level of religious education, especially at the stage of formation, makes it fundamental», — Putin said.

During the meeting the President asked the Chairman of the Spiritual administration of Muslims of Russia, Chairman of the Council of Muftis of Russia Ravil Gainutdin with the request to reduce the number of secular universities that are part of the government program of support of Islamic education.

«Today, the universities-partners of our Islamic educational institutions, a lot of them, and the President’s administration knows that the funds allocated for the support of Islamic education sometimes spent not on task (purpose), in the sense that they go to a state University, go through them, but a large part remains and comes to our Islamic schools. Now we need to leave two or three of the partner University and through them to provide financial assistance to support our educational programs,» he said.

The head of state promised to look into the matter. «In this regard, I would like to say that we will continue to support through state universities, because this is a requirement of the law, but what you said about reducing the number of partner universities, this is probably correct, we will see,» — said Putin.
